Our trip to Skomer Island, Wales, was to start with a visit to Gigrin Farm feeding station. Several hundred birds visit the feeding station at 2pm in the Winter, 3PM in the summer. At this time of year kingfishers are busy feeding their young- each young bird requiring 12-18 fish a day, and up to ten in a brood could mean 180 fish per day, typically a nest visit every ten minutes.
